UPTC Meeting - May 14, 2003
Pam Fogel called the meeting to order at 8:05pm.
I. Announcements
- New budget voting date is June 3, 2003. You have until May 29, 2003 to register.
- At the April 29, 2003 meeting, the Board approved a merger of tax classes 3, 4 and 5 to go into effect in the fall of 2003.
- Photo ID and immunization records are required for school registration.
- Policy for student driving up for a third reading - policy was accepted
- Student privacy up for a second reading
- Minutes were approved
- On May 1, 2003, the Great Neck Teacher's Center invited
parents to join teachers, staff and administration to come hear
Dr. Harold Koplewicz speak at South High. The topic was
Recognizing & Treading Adolescent Depression. All PTA leaders
were given flyers to post and/or distribute.
- At the May 19, 2003 SEPTA meeting at South Middle, standards
and inclusion will be the topic
- On May 19, 2003, the Miles for Melanoma walk will take
place at the North Middle track between 9 and 10 AM. All are
welcome
- Treasurer's Report:
i. Checking account: $2,455.05
ii. Money Market: $3,924.49
II. Superintendent's Report
- No new Superintendent as of yet.
- Board has received 37 resumes; 6 were selected for extensive
interviews
- Board hasn't been able to come to a consensus on any candidate.
- Dr. Shine will take a more active role with the search.
- The approach will be more aggressive; might have to change the benefits package.
- Dr. Shine will stay for another 6 months as interim Superintendent.
- No problems for school opening in September
- Bomb scare at North High today; caller appeared to be an elderly manstating that a bomb will go off in an hour.
- Evacuation procedure was perfect.
III. Committee Reports
- No committee reports given.
IV. New Business
- North Middle School orientation program for incoming 6th graders and parents was not very well received; suggestions for some changes were made.
- Discusson of a scholarship award in Dr. Shine's name to be awarded to various seniors. Further discussion required on this topic.
- A vote was taken and approved to have the UPTC write a letter to the Board of Education suggesting a school building be named in Dr. Shine's honor.
- Shind day on June 8th has been canceled. All testimonies still going on and to be presented to Dr. Shine
- New slate for the UPTC Board for the next two years to be voted on at the last UPTC meeting in June.
